2015: our highlights

Cat Williams, 30th December 2015

It’s nearly the end of the year and time has flown by in the Altmetric office! Highlights of 2015 for us have included launching the Altmetric Ambassadors program, announcing Wikipedia tracking, adding support for The Conversation articles and Clinical Trials, and building the Bookmetrix project with Springer.

We’ve also welcomed many new faces to our growing team and had lots of fun along the way. So to wrap things up, we asked everyone to share their own favourite happenings from the last 12 months:

2015 was great because…

kathyround“I discovered the Great British Bake Off (finally!), contactless payments became a thing (which I may come to regret) and we added 5 more people to our fabulous Altmetric team!” — Kathy Christian, COO

sararound“I made so many new friends at Altmetric, started doing yoga, and vacationed in India. Oh, and I fell in love :)” — Sara Rouhi, Product Sales Manager

shaneround“I traveled to Amsterdam for a week of firsts: first time away from home on my own, first time flying on my own, first time doing expenses! And the first time meeting many of our advocates, of course!” — Shane Preece, Developer

louiseround“I got a new job within the Altmetric team (which I’m very excited about), learnt how to make carrot cake and danced at a secret woodland disco with my 18 month old daughter.” — Louise Hills, Head of Development

tomround“My wife and I spent a wonderful summer of culture together. I had good health and laughed, a lot. I also learned so much from the people around me both inside and outside Altmetric.” — Tom Hewer, Sys Admin

jeanround“I bought a piano – my fourth ever, but the first since moving to the UK. Like welcoming home an old friend.” — Jean Liu, Product Development Manager

mattround“I learned plumbing and wiring and plastering, and will hopefully soon have a house suitable for living in.” — Matt MacLeod, Developer

stacy“I traveled to Sweden for the first time (but definitely not the last!), moved into a new home in the New Mexico mountains, and–most importantly–joined the Altmetric team! :)” — Stacy Konkiel, Outreach & Engagement Manager

jonathanround“I moved to a different country for the first time in my life, found a job in an amazing company and made lot of new friends.” — Jonathan Hernandez, Developer

paulround“I met many wonderful people; some while traipsing through idyllic Scandinavia, others while sharing a love of computation in London and, of course, all those who joined the Altmetric team.” — Paul Mucur, CTO

franround“I moved into a lovely new flat, gave two kittens a home, graduated from UCL and had an excellent time with Altmetric in Amsterdam! I also learned how to make the perfect breakfast martini.” — Fran Davies, Sales & Customer Support Exec

benround“I lost some weight, fell in love, completed my first full year at Altmetric and enjoyed every moment of it.” — Ben McLeish, Product Sales Manager

euanround“I delegated more to people smarter than me, bought the best hoodie ever, only ever took hand luggage and the Pret by our office started selling macaroni and cheese.” — Euan Adie, Founder and CEO

nataliaround“I visited amazing libraries from Sheffield to Sydney running altmetrics workshops and met a friendly Tasmanian Devil.” — Natalia Madjarevic, Training & Implementation Manager

maciejround“We finally kicked off the Food Club, I made many great friends at Altmetric and most importantly my fiancée moved in with me here in London!” — Maciej Gajewski, Developer

pabloround“My son started school, I spent more time with my wife, and I collaborated with awesome companies, including Altmetric.” — Pablo Manrubia, Developer

catround“I spent the year working with lots of brilliant and inspiring people, got married AND finally made my very own Altmetric donut Christmas wreath! (Less fattening than it sounds)” — Catherine Williams, Head of Marketing

scottround“I did my first public tech talk, and only one person took issue with it. But he was a little bit drunk.” — Scott Matthewman, Developer

jakubround“I stepped outside of my comfort zone a good couple of times and learned how to enjoy life more.” — Jakub Pawlowicz, Developer

abheerround“I joined Altmetric. Sold my first product. And realized I’m still not a morning person.”— Abheer Kolhatkar, Developer

anaround“I had a lovely honeymoon and joined Altmetric and a fantastic team. What else can I ask for?” — Ana Castro, Developer

And with that, we’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year!! Here’s to an equally brilliant 2016 🙂
