BMJ Group integrates Altmetric into their portfolio of journals
We’re pleased to be supporting Open Access Week with the BMJ Group. As you might have read yesterday on the BMJ Web Development Blog, Altmetric donuts have just been implemented into the BMJ’s portfolio of specialty journals. According to the blog post by Claire Bower, digital communications manager at BMJ, the move was “[i]n support of this year’s theme for Open Access Week, ‘redefining impact’”. The BMJ has recently been exploring Altmetric data, and they put together this list of 12 open access articles from BMJ that received the most attention in the past year.
As part of the BMJ’s new altmetrics initiative, an Altmetric “widget” containing the donut and metrics information will now appear under each article’s abstract. (Check out an example journal article page here.) Clicking on the donut leads to the Altmetric details page, which displays the raw metrics as well as the actual conversations.
We’re excited about the Altmetric integration into BMJ, and look forward to hearing feedback from the journals’ authors and readers.
