New Altmetric application launched on ScienceDirect
We are very excited to announce the launch of a new 6-month pilot initiative with Elsevier, which involves the integration of the Altmetric badges into 26 journals on ScienceDirect. The participating journals, including The Lancet, Neuron, American Journal of Preventative Medicine, Current Biology, and Trends in Cognitive Sciences.
ScienceDirect users will now see an “Article-level metrics” sidebar application on article pages of the participating journals. The sidebar application displays Altmetric data for the relevant article, including a visualisation, the article’s Altmetric score, and descriptions of the types and amount of attention the article has received. We’re also testing out a new feature, consisting of news highlights, that will appear underneath the visualisation. During the 6-month pilot, we are also doing A/B testing of a brand new “bar-style” visualisation; this means that 50% of users will see the donut, and 50% will see the bar.
An example article page can be found here, with the Article-level metrics application on the right-hand side. From the application, users can also click through to the Altmetric details page, which now has a customised look and feel for the ScienceDirect platform.
Trending articles featured on Elsevier journals
In a separate agreement signed with Elsevier, Altmetric data are now being used to pick up “top rated” articles that have been published in 33 specific journals.
Articles featured in the “top rated” pod are those that have been the focus of a significant amount of attention in the last 6 months. Accessible via the journal homepages, users can view the full list of top rated articles, and explore the data behind the Altmetric score in more detail by clicking on the donut for that article. Examples of the new trending articles lists can be found on the homepages for the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology and Earth and Planetary Science Letters.
