Wow - cross-over of HIF and N-degron-based oxygen sensing pathways through Arginyl transferases! Oxygen dependent arginylation of HIF1 triggers its degradation by UBR N-recognins in non-metazoan animals that don't have the pVHL E3 ligase. Very cool!
