Abstract

Hantaviruses are emerging zoonotic viruses which cause human disease. In this study sera from 642 mammals from La Réunion and Mayotte islands (Indian Ocean) were screened for the presence of hantaviruses by molecular analysis. None of the mammals from La Réunion island were positive but hantavirus genomic RNA was discovered in 29 of 160 (18%) Rattus rattus from Mayotte island. The nucleoprotein coding region was sequenced from liver and spleen of all positive individuals allowing epidemiological and intra-strain variability analyses. Phylogenetic analysis based on complete coding genomic sequences showed that this Murinae-associated hantavirus is a new variant of the Thailand virus. Further studies are needed to investigate hantaviruses in rodent hosts and human Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) cases.

Attention Score in Context

Attention Score in Context

This research output has an Altmetric Attention Score of 11. This is our high-level measure of the quality and quantity of online attention that it has received. This Attention Score, as well as the ranking and number of research outputs shown below, was calculated when the research output was last mentioned on 24 March 2020.
All research outputs
#4,119,229
of 33,738,238 outputs
Outputs from Journal of General Virology
#807
of 7,706 outputs
Outputs of similar age
#48,693
of 334,585 outputs
Outputs of similar age from Journal of General Virology
#8
of 48 outputs
Altmetric has tracked 33,738,238 research outputs across all sources so far. Compared to these this one has done well and is in the 87th percentile: it's in the top 25% of all research outputs ever tracked by Altmetric.
So far Altmetric has tracked 7,706 research outputs from this source. They typically receive a little more attention than average, with a mean Attention Score of 6.7. This one has done well, scoring higher than 89% of its peers.
Older research outputs will score higher simply because they've had more time to accumulate mentions. To account for age we can compare this Altmetric Attention Score to the 334,585 tracked outputs that were published within six weeks on either side of this one in any source. This one has done well, scoring higher than 85% of its contemporaries.
We're also able to compare this research output to 48 others from the same source and published within six weeks on either side of this one. This one has done well, scoring higher than 79% of its contemporaries.
