This a cool and simple technique to measure peak floods. Basically attach a pipe with holes in it to a bridge and wait for the flood to come. That 2014 flood in the Muddy almost got me. 😬. That was a close call!

Since 1961, we’ve teamed up with the @nevadadot to collect peak streamflows on 26 gaged sites in NV every year. These peak streamflow values can be used to estimate how often flooding may occur. Learn about the sites in a new fact sheet by Kurtiss Schmidt:
