ALPSP Conference & Awards 2019

Old Windsor, United Kingdom

13 September 2019

Digital Science is sponsoring this year’s ALPSP conference in Berkshire, UK. Sara Grimme, Director of Strategic Accounts, and Cathy Holland, Director of Global Publisher Business Development, will be attending the conference and presenting as part of the parallel session 1d ‘Business Models & Innovation: Reducing User Friction in Low and Middle-Income Countries’ on Thursday 12th September in Hanover 1 on the ground floor.

About the session: ‘In this session, we will discuss the challenges faced by research communities in the Global South as they seek access to online resources via over-stretched networks and primarily via mobile devices.  We consider the user experience for Research4Life users and the potential for new systems of authentication and access management to level the playing field for low- and middle-income countries.  We discuss CASA (Campus Activated Subscriber Access) and Single Sign-On federated identity management as solutions for these research communities, where the supply of campus internet is far exceeded by the demands on networks, greatly limiting the ability of researchers to access content. Kamran Naim from Annual Reviews will share their experience of CASA implementation in delivering more efficient access and improving usage, while Andrea Powell from Research4Life will discuss recent improvements to access control and on-going challenges in serving the needs of this growing user community.’

About the conference: The ALPSP Conference provides a friendly forum in which to share information and knowledge, learn about new initiatives and engage in open discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing publishing today. With expert speakers and a wide ranging programme, the ALPSP Conference is for everyone in the scholarly publishing community.
