Ultra-processed foods lead to increased calorie consumption and weight. They are missing natural whole food nutrients that regulate satiety and metabolism (specific fibers, fats, and phenols). Nutrient RATIOS are off (carb/fiber, sat fat/total fat, Na/K).

But more sinister, UPF have been shown to bypass your satiety signals causing you to eat more of them before feeling full. There are many types of diets that can work for you long term, but a unifying factor between all of them is... they minimize UPF

Great thread. We will look back at this time as when the mainstream press and mainstream culture were hopelessly lost on a very simple story. Real foods = health-giving; ultra-processed = health-taking.
@lean_minded @bigfatsurprise @sguyenet Not really In 100 yrs protein stayed the same, but calories from UPF went through the roof High fat and high carb food is the perfect combo how to fatten up a body. Remember dr Halls study? Fat makes fat Sugar
@fmahmad88 @traderjodie @michael_krashes It's a problem because it draws people toward foods that tend to be fattening and unhealthy, creating eating habits and motivations that are hard to change. https://t.co/l9tZRS9oiB https://t.co/ZSqp2C2JJ2
