Altmetric expands research impact tracking with addition of Clinical Guidelines

Altmetric will now include Clinical Guidelines as a new attention source. Clinical Guidelines, defined as evidence-based recommendations designed to optimize patient care, represent an important resource in healthcare decision-making and the application of research into clinical practice.  

This inclusion marks a significant advancement in understanding the translation of research into real-world healthcare impact. By tracking research referenced in Clinical Guidelines, Altmetric provides a clearer picture of how studies influence medical practices and patient outcomes.  

The update is expected to benefit a wide range of stakeholders, including medical affairs professionals, research funding organizations, academic researchers, and clinical institutions. These groups will gain enhanced insight into the practical applications and long-term influence of their work.  

The integration will be reflected in all Altmetric tools: Clinical Guidelines will contribute to Altmetric Attention Scores and appear with a unique aqua green color in the  Altmetric badge, and will provide more related and detailed information to the Altmetric Explorer.
