About your use of Altmetric free tools

You may only use the Altmetric Free Tools for the relevant Approved Purpose (described below), which in all cases shall be limited to your own, non-commercial purposes and in accordance with applicable guidelines. 

If you are acting for or on behalf of an institution, business, or other entity (“Organization”), you must only use the Altmetric Free Tools via account(s) registered in the Organization’s name (where there is the option to register). By registering with us, you represent that you have the authority to bind the Organization, and your agreement to these terms will be treated as the agreement of that Organization. 

You represent that all registration information you submit is accurate and truthful, and agree not to use any Altmetric Free Tools for any purpose not expressly permitted. Without limiting the foregoing, you agree not to use any Altmetric Free Tools for any restricted act listed in the “Rules and Conduct” section of the general terms of use. 

Approved uses

Subject to any limitations described on the webpages and guidelines applicable to a given Altmetric Free Tools or elsewhere in these terms of use, the Altmetric Free Tools must only be used for the purposes described below.  If your organization type or use case isn’t described, please do get in touch to see what we can do to help!

All research use of the Altmetric Free Tools should be appropriately acknowledged, including by attributing Altmetric.com on each page on which any Altmetric data has been relied upon (and where electronic, links to www.altmetric.com). Such acknowledgement should not suggest we endorse you or your use case. 

For the avoidance of doubt, no part of the Approved Uses permits: (a) use of any data made available via the Altmetric Free Tools, or derived therefrom (“Altmetric Data”) for any non-internal purpose, but without prejudice to any permitted display of  Altmetric Badges; (b) use for any commercial purposes whatsoever or for the benefit of any other person; (c) use to develop, or otherwise in connection with, a product or service which competes with any of the products and/or services we offer, including to verify or enhance data previously or independently acquired or developed by you for use in respect of such product or service.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL LIABILITY HOWSOEVER CAUSED AND REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY ASSERTED, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE ALTMETRIC FREE TOOLS.

Copyright

You acknowledge that the Altmetric Free Tools are protected by copyright and other proprietary rights, which we and our licensors will retain. You will abide by all relevant copyright notices, usage restrictions and other additional licensing terms, including those on the acknowledgements page, and agree that any unauthorized use will result in the automatic termination of any rights granted to you. To the extent there is any conflict between the rights granted in these terms and such additional licensing terms, the latter shall prevail.

General

Together with the general terms of use and additional terms referred to therein (to the extent applicable), these terms constitute the entire agreement with you relating to the Altmetric Free Tools, noting that we may modify or replace these terms at any time.

Any reference to “Altmetric Free Tools” in these terms, includes Altmetric Data, where the context permits.
