Keyword impact assessment through Altmetric Indicators

The webinar with guest speaker, Ashraf Maleki (University of Turku) focused on keyword impact assessment, a novel approach to understanding the altmetric impact of scientific publications beyond article- and journal-level.

The session explored how citation and altmetric indicators can be analyzed at the keyword level, providing a more granular view of research impact. By assessing the influence of specific keywords across publications, a deeper understanding will be achieved into:

• How citation and altmetric trends vary across thematic areas in large scientific domains
• Which research topics drive scholarly and online attention across different altmetric indicators
• The structure of knowledge networks based on various altmetric-based variables on a keyword co-occurrence network

To visualize these dynamics, the University of Turku developed a program that constructs overlay map files of a scientific domain based on keyword co-occurrences weighted by their altmetric indicators. This method showed how different topics resonate across altmetric indicators. We walked through the methodology, key findings, and visualization strategies and showed how keyword-level analysis can enhance our understanding of research dissemination and influence.
