Altmetric in the News
Integration of quantitative and qualitative attention insights adds new context to support strategic decision making
20 July — London, UK and Boston, US — Data science company ÜberResearch today announced the integration of Altmetric badges into the Dimensions platform. Dimensions is a global grants database that provides funders and institutions with a comprehensive view of the research funding landscape, helping them to make informed and data driven strategic decisions.
The integration means that Altmetric badges and attention score now appear in publication search results within Dimensions, providing users with an immediate visual indicator of the type and volume of online attention surrounding individual research publications within the platform for the first time.
Users can click on the colourful badges to see full details of the online attention research items have received from sources such as the mainstream media, social and scholarly networks, blogs and Wikipedia, as well as a record of where studies have influenced public policy or been cited amongst academics.
“Providing the additional insights that Altmetric badges and their associated details pages bring was a key priority for us”, says Christian Herzog, CEO of ÜberResearch. “Making this data available to our users will help them more easily determine the bigger picture of research in a given field, and will better inform their decision making as a result.”
Altmetric’s Founder Euan Adie adds, “The integration of Altmetric badges to the Dimensions platform really showcases how our data can be used to add valuable context in an easily accessible way. Understanding the broader engagement surrounding funded research is a key priority for many of our mutual clients, and this is a big step forward in enabling them to do so effectively.”
The Altmetric badges are live now in the Dimensions platform and are available to Dimensions customers who also subscribe to the Altmetric Explorer for Institutions platform.
