Meet Our Team

Paul Mucur

When he’s not incessantly posting photographs of homemade bread on the internet, Paul can be found tinkering with open source software as a member of the London Ruby User Group and London Computation Club.

As a former technical lead at Springer Nature, Paul has worked in scientific publishing since 2010 and was a prize winner in the 2012 Rails Rumble for “SciCombinator”: an aggregator of the most talked about science on the internet.

About my role…

I’m responsible for all technology at Altmetric. In reality, this means overseeing all software development from the way we work (the various development methodologies and processes) to our overall technical direction (how we grow and constantly change Altmetric to handle the increasing volume of mentions and research outputs). I’m also responsible for ensuring the development team get the support they need, both from each other and from the wider company.

In an average day I work with our development teams including our Head of Development and various product owners, attending daily stand-ups to help out anyone who needs it, handling any infrastructure issues with our SRE and still writing and shipping code as part of a team.

The best part of my job is seeing the amazing things the team achieves without being directly involved myself.

The most interesting thing I’ve learnt since starting at Altmetric is how to scale a software development team from one or two people and how to tackle some of the inevitable growing pains!

The thing I’m most looking forward to next is ensuring that technology at Altmetric provides a reliable yet flexible platform for the rest of the company to innovate and improve, making sure we are capable of constantly changing to meet the shifting needs of our customers but always in a sustainable way.
